Family Mediation Is An Effective Method of Resolving Family Conflict

Family mediation empowers the family members as they work towards ending their conflict, allowing them to maintain control and ownership of the process. It emphasizes the importance of cooperation and fairness, especially when it comes to the well being of children and dependents.

Family Mediators encourage communication among family members to explore their respective needs and interests in order to establish a shared agreement. It is an opportunity for a new beginning without the tension and frustration so common to divorce court and litigation in general.

FAQs

How much does mediation cost?

The cost of mediation varies greatly based on the number of issues you wish to resolve and the level of conflict. The initial package price is $1500 which includes two private intake sessions for each party and up to two joint sessions of approximately two hours each and a mediation report. Additional sessions can be purchased as needed at a rate of $300 per hour. This initial package is often sufficient for people in relatively low conflict situation who want to mediate an agreement for parenting, support and simple property division such as matrimonial home. If you have a more complex or contentious case we can discuss a custom package price.

What Can Be Mediated?

Almost any issue you want to resolve can be mediated. Most people use mediation to create a separation agreement which includes parenting plan, child support, spousal support, matrimonial home, division of assets, pensions and equalization. Mediation can also be used to make changes to existing parenting plans or agreements.

Do We Have To Hire Lawyers?

It is strongly recommended but not required that both parties get independent legal advice and use a lawyer to draft a legally binding agreement from the mediation report. A mediator cannot give legal advice but can provide you with the legal information you need to make decisions.
